Chapter 5: Madame Pyka, King Inoris, Queen ???

Rue
Carefully and cautiously, I followed PK into her magnificent palace. I entered her room, which was huge, and had all kinds of luxury furniture. I gasped.
"You like?" She asked, holding her arms out wide.
"Umm, what's not to like?" I responded with a grimace. I still didn't really know this strange, energetic girl.
She lay on her huge king-sized bed and stared stared upwards. The ceiling was made of glass, so you could see the sun, slowly setting in the distance. "Wow." I murmured, taking in the view.
"Yeah," PK said, as if it was nothing. "You can push that button next to the door to cover it up. Try it."
I walked over to the door, and sure enough, there was a big red button mounted on the wall. I pressed it. The room went dark.

PK
I grinned at Rue's easy fascination at my everyday belongings. It was easy to make her gasp as she had never been as rich as my family. I check the clock on the wall, it was 6:45. "Time for dinner!" I announced, and sure enough, the dinner bell rang three times.
"Okay," Rue said, popping out the doorway. "Umm, where's the dining room?"
I giggled, and put my hand on her shoulder. She flinched a little but then relaxed. I led her to the stairwell at the end of the hallway. It spiraled down into the dining room. "Watch this," I said, winking. And then I hoisted myself up onto the banister and slid down the spiral staircase railing screaming.

Rue
I gaped as I watch PK scream down the banister. Well, if she was the 'princess' of this palace then I should be able to, right? My thoughts collided with one another and I looked to see on my left shoulder a little angel. I turned to my right. There sat a devil.
"Wha-?" I said, but the angel interrupted me.
"You shouldn't, you mustn't. You are the guest. Madame Pyka is the host, so she can do whatever. You however must show respect to her palace." the angel sniffed disdainfully, her nose held up in the air. "But of course, all people never listen to me. They always follow the devil's instructions," I thought a saw a tear on her face but when I looked again, it was gone.
"So," I said, turning to the devil, "What are you gonna say?"
The devil leaned against my shoulder and picked his fingernails. "I say you should do whatever PK does. She's setting an example for you, follow it. What's the worst that could happen, right?" He grimaced at me and disappeared in a poof of smoke. I looked to my left shoulder. The angel was gone too.
I scratched my head and thought hard. I was about to walk down like the angel suggested when I heard PK calling me: "Rue, come down! It's not scary! Promiiisseeeee!"
And without another thought, I hoisted myself up onto the shiny banister and slid down screaming with terror first, then joy. "I told you no one listens to me," a very familiar angel-like voice sounded in my ear. I gasped, and lost my balance on the railing.
Luckily, I was near the bottom, and only got a sore butt.
"What ho!" The king said. I looked up to see him sitting at the very far end of a banquet table, which was about 15 feet long. PK sat on one of the long sides, and there was a elaborate chair just for me, on the other side.
"You did it, Rue!" I saw PK smiling and clapping. She put her hand over her mouth and giggled with open delight. "Practice makes perfect!"
"I think I learned that lesson today," I said shakily, rubbing my sore butt. Both of them laughed.
"Oh, do sit down, dear Rue. Feel free to fill your plate with our delicacies!" I king laughed merrily and waved his hand over the many plates. I saw the many different dishes and gasped.
I almost ran to my chair and dug in. Filling my plate with dishes like: Tomato soup w/ Pesto, Honey-glazed Crispy Chicken Fired Rice, All-Natural Green Salad, and Lobster. They both let out mighty roars of laughter and dug in themselves. Between a bite and a chew, I asked the king, "So, Mr.King, do I just call you that, or do you have a specific title?"
The king smiled at me and replied: "Well, Ms. Crowhearth, Mr. King is nice; but I prefer you call me King Inoris"
"Okay, King Inoris." I formed the word carefully, he smiled.
"Daddy?" PK voice interrupted our conversation. "Rue's wish when she came here was to go on an adventure. Do you think I could come with her?"
The king's joyful mood vanished and he stiffened. "No." He whispered, "No." I glanced between the two of them and wondered why King Inoris had gotten mad. The king glanced at me, and then his daughter. "I mean, yes." He sighed. "But only if you go through three months of training." He straightened, and his eyes now took a weary, sad look.
PK cheered and skipped over to where I sat. "Yaaaayyy~! He said 'yes', Rue we can go through training. Isn't that exciting?" She pulled me up the stairs screaming with joy all the way to her room.

I lay next to PK in her huge bed. "PK?" I asked cautiously.
     "Hmm?"
"Why did King Inoris get mad at the dinner table?"
"Oh," She patted my shoulder and whispered, "It's only because Mommy died on an adventure. But don't worry, we won't!" She winked in the darkness and quickly fell asleep.
"Oh..." I whispered to no one, and I remembered the king's sad and tired eyes. "Oh."
